Settlement: $3 million

A 69-year-old male resident (a quadriplegic who depended on nursing home staff for all aspects of daily living) was dropped when the staff used a Hoyer lift to transfer him. Due to the nursing home staff allegedly not being properly trained or supervised, he was dropped on his head and suffered massive bleeding in his brain. He died nine days later as a result of the injuries.

The Law Offices of David J. Hoey were prepared to proved at trial that the drop and his subsequent death could have been prevented with appropriate care and treatment by trained and supervised staff. The case settled before trial for $3 million.
