Aspiration pneumonia (also known as anaerobic pneumonia) is an inflammation, usually due to an infection, of the lungs and bronchial tubes that occurs after inhaling foreign matter such as vomit, food, or liquid.

Many elderly patients and residents need nursing home or assisted living facility staff to help them while they eat, ensuring that they do not put too much food in their mouth at one time and that they swallow properly. If a nursing home or assisted living facility doesn’t properly monitor or assist elderly residents during meal times, food or liquid may be inhaled into the lungs. If this happens, an elderly resident may then develop pneumonia, severely compromising his or her health and may even lead to death.

If you or a loved one has been harmed as a result of aspiration pneumonia, the nursing home or assisted living facility may be held accountable. Our attorneys have specific experience representing victims and families who have been harmed by aspiration pneumonia.
