Genevieve Calandro died a month after being taken to a hospital from Radius HealthCare Center in Danvers.

The family of a 90-year-old woman who died in 2008 was awarded $14 million by a Middlesex County jury.

Genevieve Calandro died a month after being taken to a hospital from Radius HealthCare Center on Liberty Street in Danvers. Doctors found the woman had a festering pressure sore on her back, acute appendicitis, a urinary tract infection, kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes and severe dehydration, according to the Associated Press.

The jury ruled that Radius, which is now out of business, had been grossly negligent.

Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly said the $14 million is the largest nursing home-related verdict in the state in at least a decade, reported The Boston Globe.

A lawyer representing the company said Radius will appeal the award.
